Sayan Chatterjee is an architect, researcher, and educator whose work explores the intersection of culture, narrative, and human experience in architecture. He holds a Master of Architecture from the Dessau Institute of Architecture (Bauhaus Campus), Germany.
His professional journey spans India, Egypt and Germany, where he has worked on a diverse range of architectural projects, design competitions, and research initiatives. Before joining SEA, he practiced with leading architectural firms including gmp Architects in Berlin and Abin Design Studio in Kolkata, gaining experience in design development, visualization, research, and large-scale architectural projects.
Sayan's research interests focus on architectural semiotics, phenomenology, cultural storytelling, and the ways in which architecture can communicate meaning and shape human perception. His master's thesis, “Hallucination of In-Between” reflects his ongoing interest in exploring alternative ways of understanding space, culture, and design.
Alongside his academic pursuits, he is deeply interested in art, music, and visual culture, which continue to influence his approach to architecture and teaching. He believes architecture is not only about building spaces but also about understanding the stories, memories, and experiences that shape them.
